ZNP Bar Soap was the only available bar soap at Walgreen's and other pharmacy retailers with the maximal allowed level of 2% medicated pyrithione zinc for many years. As of 2011 ZNP is no longer available. At the time, I was told by Stiefel Labs, the producer of ZNP, that the ZNP shortage would continue at least until 2012 due to troubles with its Mexico production facility, which made their ZNP Bar Soap at that time. ZNP is back and it contains cocamidopropyl betaine, which was named the Allergen of the Year in 2004 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. ZNP Bar Soap also contains fragrance, which I don't recommend due to allergen potential and the ambiguity inherent in that term that means phthalates may be included also. Phthalates are included in many artificial fragrances. They are known hormone disruptors that accumulate in aquatic ecosystems.
Trying to buy ZNP soap online or in stores?
The good news is that my Calming Zinc Bar, also with a full 2% pyrithione zinc, works as well as ZNP against dandruff and facial seborrhea. In fact, my patients find it's even better! It's also in a natural soap base that has NO FRAGRANCE, NO PHTHALATES and no cocamidopropyl betaine.
Switch to Calming Zinc Bar Soap if you are still using the old ZNP Bar Soap!
- It works better,
- does not contain allergens
- is fragrance free and phthalate free, and
- is crafted in a natural soap base with all the effectiveness of a full 2% pyrithione zinc.
What makes Calming Zinc Soap unique among all dandruff remedies?
My Calming Zinc Soap is the perfect collaboration between medical science and healing, natural ingredients. Calming Zinc is hand crafted from these ingredients using the old fashion method for making soap. Pyrithione zinc is then added at the maximal allowed level making it a skin care wonder!
If you've used Noble Formula Zinc Soap or any of the other pyrithione zinc bar soaps in the past, I believe that you'll love Calming Zinc. Noble Formula Zinc Soap uses emu oil. Calming Zinc uses shea butter, making it animal free and full of the right combination of plant based linoleic, oleic and stearic acids to soothe your inflamed and irritated skin.
What is pyrithione zinc good for and how does it help skin problems?
As a dermatologist I’ve use 2% pyrithione zinc skin care products for years to treat my patients with:
- Pityrosporum folliculitis type of acne,
- facial scale and redness from age and sun damage,
- some types of psoriasis
- and to prevent tinea versicolor.
For many years, you could only find 2% pyrithione zinc skin cleansing products made in harsh, drying, allergen heavy formulations like ZNP and shampoos. These products over-dried and irritated your skin if you were suffering from the very same skin conditions that pyrithione zinc treats. They also had the potential to cause allergic rashes.
My Calming Zinc Bar soothes instead of irritates. At the same time, it delivers the maximal amount of important pyrithione zinc to fight you skin problems. Now you can get soft, smooth, healthy skin when you use Calming Zinc for your skin care cleansing step. Calming Zinc Bar is the best choice for therapeutic facial cleanser for rosacea or facial dandruff.
Calming Zinc is economical because the bar lasts a long time. Many people use dandruff shampoo on their face because it's economical. But shampoos are too harsh for facial skin. They contain strong foaming chemicals, preservatives and fragrances, all of which are poorly tolerated by compromised facial skin. Like shampoos, ZNP has been made as a hard-milled soap with a highly foaming soap base that irritates compromised skin. Over the years, I've seen many patients develop dry, red and scaly skin from ZNP. At the time we had no alternative treatments. Now we have Calming Zinc.
Because my Calming Zinc Bar is made in the old fashioned, natural soap making method it's chock full of naturally hydrating glycerin and has a broad range of healing properties. Used once or twice a day, Calming Zinc leaves your skin soft, hydrated and clean, without over-drying. I use Calming Zinc’s 2% pyrithione zinc in my dermatology practice to fight the germs that aggravate dandruff, rosacea, Pityrosporum type of acne and other skin conditions so that your skin can heal naturally. - Dermatologist Dr. Cynthia Bailey
Finally, say goodbye to dry-looking, red, scaly, inflamed and embarrassing skin.
Where can you use Calming Zinc Bar Soap?
- Use Calming Zinc on your face, ears, neck, back and chest.
- If you don’t have much scalp hair you can use Calming Zinc on your scalp too.
This natural and hydrating soap doesn’t lather enough to get through a thick head of hair so for dandruff on a hairy scalp I recommend my Foaming Zinc Cleanser to be used as a shampoo.
The hydrating and soothing properties of Calming Zinc Bar make it far more
effective than ZNP for treating the same skin problems. You get a full 2% level of pyrithione zinc, just like with ZNP, but in a much more appropriate soap base for your sensitive, problem skin. Click here to buy Calming Zinc Soap.
