Pore appearance changes based on how plump the skin is between the pores and how much dark stuff is stuck in and plugging up your pores
Structurally, think of your pores and skin as buttons in a tufted pillow. The plusher the pillow the deeper the button looks. The wider the button the wider the hole looks. Exfoliate skin to take out some of the plumpness between pores and the pores look finer. Clean out the dark debris and/or blackheads and pores look less wide and deep. Remove oily shine that enhances pore optics to make all pores look smaller.
4 Daily steps to shrink the appearance of pores with your skin care:
- Exfoliate chemically with AHA/BHA and Retinol plus physically with a sponge or scrub.
- Clean out pore clogging debris and blackheads with salicylic acid (BHA), Retinol and Glycolic acid (AHA) – see common ingredients in step 1 and 2?!
- Clean off oil well with a non-drying cleanser and witch hazel-based toner. Reduce oil production with high concentration pure green tea polyphenols. Hide oil during the day with matte base products and/or mineral powder.
- Fight blackheads and clogged pores with Retinol, Glycolic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide.
Dermatologist's Skin Care Routine to Fight Large Pores
CLEANSE: AHA/BHA cleansers are the fastest workhorse for pores. Targeted options include Foaming Acne Treatment Cleanser used with a Facial Exfoliation Sponge or Triple Action Cleanser with eco-friendly beads. Double cleanse with astringent witch hazel that shrinks pore opening by using either Naturally Hydrating Pore Minimizing Toner (most skin types) or Acne Treatment Pads if you struggle with acne and blackheads. If you also have seborrhea or rosacea, alternate your cleanser with Calming Zinc Soap to control Pityrosporum yeast that can crowd into pores.
CORRECT: Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy Cream has the power to lower oil production and fight acne. This benefit if proven for 80-90% pure green tea isolates like ours. It can be topped daily with Glycolic Acid Face Cream in am or pm. At night, Retinol Night Cream, which contains green tea, is applied. If acne is a problem, apply benzoyl peroxide over the Green Tea to fight the acne causing bacteria called P. acnes (now C. acnes) in place of glycolic acid or retinol.
HYDRATE: with oil-free Daily Face Cream for Normal to Oily Skin where needed (sides of face, around eyes etc.)
PROTECT: with Sheer Strength Pure Physical SPF 50 Sunscreen, Matte to further absorb oil or Invisible Crème if you want no tinted color.
Makeup, if worn, is best used as pure mineral powder which continues to absorb oil throughout the day.
