Hands & Feet
Dermatologist's solutions for healthy and soft hand and foot skin.
Hand and foot skin is uniquely thick compared with the rest of your skin. It also has to stand up to a lot of use. The skin on the back of your hands is also prone to sun damage and premature skin aging.
Give your hands and feet the right skin care and maintain healthy and comfortable skin that looks as good as it feels at any age. - Dr. Bailey
The most common problems with hand skin include:
- chapping and dryness due to exposure to harsh soaps, weather or chemicals, and
- hand eczema.
Both lead to painful cracks, fissures and fragile hand skin that keeps getting worse until you intervene.
What is the best anti-aging skin care for hands?
Skin on the back of the hands shows the signs of skin aging relatively early in life including crepey skin, age spots and skin thinning. There are 3 important steps to fight aging hand skin:
- Hand sunscreen needs to be worn daily. Use a water-resistant SPF so that it does not wash off easily. Reapply SPF conveniently with a powder sunscreen during the day.
- Professional strength glycolic acid lotion after the bath or shower and retinol application at night will revive youthful skin tone, reduce crepey skin and lighten age spots.
- Stubborn age spots can be lightened with twice daily application of the Pigment Fading Pads.
Common foot skin problem include callouses, roughness, excessive thickness and fissures.
My hand and foot care kits include product combinations that fight the common skin problems of hand and foot skin.
I also have:
- a uniquely non-drying and fragrance-free hand soap,
- deeply hydrating lotions, creams and ointment, and
- a sturdy file and buffer to remove excessively rough skin
