Face Creams, Lotions & Oils
Facial moisturizers are creams, oils, butters and lotions that hold moisture in your skin to enhance skin barrier integrity.
They serve the step of HYDRATE in the Dr. Bailey Complete Skin Care Routineā The secret is to find the right moisturizer to work with your other facial skin treatment products, and that matches your skin type. Moisturizers hold water in the layers of your skin to balance skin hydration and prevent dehydration and chapping. Most facial moisturizers are ideal for the skin of the neck and dĆ©colletĆ© too.
It's important to know how facial moisturizers work.
Some hold water that your skin soaked up after washing. They do this by preventing evaporation in 2 ways: 1) layering on your skin to block the passage of water, or 2) binding water with humectants such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin and sodium PCA (part of your skinās natural moisturizing factor). Moisturizing oils, lotions and creams may also contain lipids and ceramides to replenish those naturally present in your skinās outer barrier layer called the stratum corneum.
Pick your moisturizer based on your skin type, or even the regional moisture needs of your face; your T-zone is oilier than other areas and may need a lighter moisturizer.
I like to keep facial moisturizing focused on moisturizing skin to enhance skin barrier integrity. Most facial creams try to do too much and fail. - Dr. Bailey
Disappointing moisturizers are one of the top reasons why you may have many unfinished jars of face cream in your bathroom. Use the best correcting products layered precisely to fix your skin problems. Layer your moisturizer on top to āseal the dealā and provide the exact moisturizing that your skin needs now.
Lip Care
Heal and keep lips healthy with dermatologist-recommended products for fragile lip skin to prevent chapping.
Your lips are fragile because they have less structural protection from the elements than the rest of your skin. Plus, you constantly expose them to stressors like sun, wind, hot and cold liquids, and allergens and irritants in the foods and beverages you drink. It's no wonder lips are often chapped and dry. Plus, you ingest what you apply to your lips, meaning you want to choose lip products with care.
Sensitive lips require the best lip treatments made from safe ingredients.
As a dermatologist, I know it is important for you to use only hypoallergenic and non-toxic products for your lip care because:
- many lipsticks contain toxic heavy metals,
- my opinion is that someĀ sunscreenĀ chemicals in lip balms are not good to ingest, and
- allergens in lip balms can make you addicted to lip balm by causing lip chapping!
It's true! Allergens in lip balms include fragrances, flavors and other ingredients that don't actually help heal and protect your lips - but you can get allergic to them. It is a vicious cycle that sells lots of lip balm. Keep your lip care products hypoallergenic and avoid lip balm addiction with my hypoallergenic Natural Lip Balm. UV protect lips with non-nano mineral protection from VaniCare Lip Protectant.
