Where does the tough-to-remove oil come from? From your skin oils and product residue. It traps skin cells, dirt, makeup particles, and debris. Until now, if you wanted to remove every last bit of it, you had to use harsh cleansers, sometimes combined with a cleansing system like the Clarisonic, and/or toners based on alcohol or acetone. These tricks work well, but they are drying and irritating, even to most normal complexions.

Witch hazel bark extract also has some antiseptic benefit against common skin germs including Staph bacteria, Candida yeast, and viruses such as herpes and influenza.
