FACIAL RELIEF FOR ROSACEA

By Cynthia Bailey MD. This page was updated on Sun, Sep 15, 2019

Dermatologist recommended products proven to fight rosacea and calm facial redness from rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis.

Skin care products with ingredients that give relief from facial redness can be a huge help when your complexion is suffering from rosacea. Many people with rosacea also have facial seborrhea. Both cause facial redness.

The two leading causes of facial redness are rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis (facial dandruff)!

The redness from these common facial complexion problems can come and go or it can be chronic. The good news is that both rosacea and facial seborrhea are treated with similar skin care products and routines.

My dermatologist-recommended ingredients and skin care routines have delivered proven relief to my patients and customers suffering from rosacea and facial redness for years.

Why do rosacea and seborrhea cause facial redness?

When you have rosacea and/or facial seborrheic dermatitis, your pores have more Pityrosporum yeast germs in them. If you have rosacea then we know that your pores may also have an increased number of demodex mites, too. Everyone has some of these two 'germs' in their pores, but if you have rosacea and/or facial dandruff then your pores may be pretty crowded with these germs, which can cause your skin to become red and inflamed. In addition to causing facial redness, these germs sometimes play a role in causing pimples. The skin yeast can cause skin flaking along the sides of your nose, chin, and in your eyebrows, as well; it's often mistaken as 'dry skin', but it's really part of the inflammation that's making your skin red. Controlling these germs helps you heal your skin.

Both skin conditions also cause skin to be more sensitive. We know that your skin barrier integrity will be weaker. You need gentle skin care products to help this weakened skin barrier heal. Skin irritation from harsh climates or skin care products will contribute to skin redness. I recommend avoiding harsh products if you have rosacea or facial dandruff.

What else do you need to know about rosacea if you want to gain control of your skin?

Rosacea prone complexions have a more sensitive skin barrier. This means that you should avoid using any product that is too harsh for your skin. You also need to balance skin hydration so that your skin never gets too dry.

Sun UV rays will trigger rosacea. It's true. This means that your skin care routine needs to include sunscreen. Your sunscreen must be non-irritating and mineral zinc oxide product are best for rosacea.

There are two main types of rosacea that impact facial skin.

Erythematotelangiectatic type. This is the classic type leading to sensitive skin, many small broken capillaries, many small red pustules and a propensity for flushing easily. This type of rosacea usually does not tolerate harsh skin products and needs a very gentle skin care routine.

Papulopustular type. This type is often not associated with skin sensitivity. The skin may be oily with large rosacea pustules and enlarged oil glands that can lead to rhinophyma (a bulbous thickening of the nose skin). Broken capillaries tend to be larger and flushing also is a problem. This type of rosacea sometimes benefits from benzoyl peroxide, which is too harsh for erythematotelangiectatic type rosacea.

I've treated thousands of dermatology patients with these conditions in over 30+ years of practice.

I've found that the best skin care ingredients for controlling their facial redness are pyrithione zinc and the combination of high-concentration green tea antioxidants plus caffeine.

My Facial Redness Relief Kit™ contains the highest amounts available of these important ingredients. The products are soothing and non-irritating, so your skin can heal. My Calming Zinc Bar Soap is fortified with a full 2% pyrithione zinc to help fight both rosacea and seborrhea. My Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy™ is made with a high concentration of pharmaceutical grade, stable, green tea antioxidants combined with caffeine.

Why do my Facial Redness Relief products and skin care routines work so well for rosacea?

My Facial Redness Relief Kit™ and skin care routines use my Calming Zinc™ Soap.

Why does Calming Zinc ™ Soap work so well for rosacea?

This beautiful, naturally made bar soap contains a full 2% of pyrithione zinc to help control the number of pityrosporum yeast germs. In my observation, it might even decrease the mites in your pores too. Both of these skin germs are more numerous on skin suffering from rosacea. When my patients wash once or twice a day with my Calming Zinc™ Soap, their facial redness invariably improves; there's less inflammation, fewer pimples, and less flaky scale.

Calming Zinc™ Soap works because it contains pyrithione zinc, a medicated ingredient commonly used to treat dandruff. Pyrithione zinc is known for its antimicrobial properties. I formulate it into Calming Zinc™, which is a natural, handmade olive oil soap base that's rich in nature's anti-inflammatory ingredients, including oats, calendula, and shea butter. Because of the 'magic' of the natural soapmaking process called saponification, Calming Zinc™ Soap is effectively oil-free because the olive oil and shea butter are turned into soap and hydrating glycerin. This means I recommend it for my acne-prone patients and oily skin complexions too.

Why does Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy work so well for rosacea?

Stubborn facial redness often won't clear up fast enough or stay clear with soap alone, which is why I use the combination of Calming Zinc™ and Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy. This product helps to replenish your skin's antioxidant reserve that is depleted by chronic facial redness and inflammation, as well as environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution. My Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy™ is also fortified with resveratrol, an antioxidant derived from grapes. Apply it right after washing your face with Calming Zinc™ Soap and notice how instantly soothed your facial skin feels!

For years, I've depended on Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy™ for facial complexions prone to redness, rosacea and seborrhea in my dermatology practice. I use it myself, and for my family too. It is loaded with green tea polyphenol antioxidants; a full 500 cups of green tea antioxidants go into each ounce of cream. When mixed with caffeine, the results are nearly miraculous in calming facial inflammation. A generous amount of hyaluronic acid completes the magic with its hydrating power.

Quieting your facial inflammation allows your skin to heal and your redness to subside. I've never seen a more effective product combo for doing this than my Calming Zinc™ Soap and Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy™. There are other green tea products that you can buy, some of which contain only small amounts of green tea and some that are less expensive, but in my experience, none soothe facial redness as well as my product combination - patient after patient I've seen that this is the best skin care treatment to get rid of facial redness. I use it for all my patients with facial redness, and if needed, I add prescription products.

Skin hydration and UV protection are also important for controlling rosacea so that your skin can heal.
